In this episode of The Mountain Side Podcast, we delve into the captivating journey of Jansen Asbill, the founder and innovative mind behind Sabo Broadheads, a revolutionary development in the world of archery equipment. His story is more than just about creating a product; it's an exploration of friendship, dedication, the challenges of developing groundbreaking technology, and the pure love for the outdoors. ## The Start of an Adventure The podcast begins with a warm welcome to Jansen, whom Bobby Marshall describes as an incredible individual and a dear friend. Their conversation unfolds in the studio placed right in the heart of Evergreen, setting a cozy yet adventurous ambiance for this episode. They share a laugh over past hangouts and express mutual appreciation for each other's friendship, showing listeners that the bond they share is rooted deeply in their shared experiences and interests.

The Road to Innovation Jansen takes us through his journey towards creating Sabo Broadheads. As someone deeply ingrained in the archery community, Jansen observed a significant gap in the effectiveness and reliability of mechanical broadheads during hunting. Driven by his passion and the desire to enhance hunting experiences, he dedicated twelve years to developing a broadhead that would minimize failure points and maximize efficiency.

The Sabo Broadhead: A Revolutionary Step Forward Jansen explains the science behind Sabo Broadheads with enthusiasm, detailing how this unique design maximizes kinetic energy upon impact, ensuring a lethal and efficient result. Unlike conventional broadheads, Sabo Broadheads are engineered to remain in flight like a regular field tip, only deploying upon impact to create large exit wounds—crucial for a successful and humane hunt. This innovative use of a carbon fiber rod and slide collar deployment strikes a perfect balance between precision and power, marking a significant advancement in hunting technology.

Beyond Technology: The Spirit of Hunting. The conversation also touches upon the philosophical aspects of hunting—what it teaches about life, patience, and the raw beauty of nature. Jansen and Bobby delve into personal experiences of being in the wild, the lessons learned from both success and failure, and the innate sense of responsibility that comes with every shot taken. These exchanges serve as a reminder that hunting is not just about the act itself but the journey and the stories created along the way.

Encountering the Unexplained In a lighter detour, Jansen shares a mesmerizing story of an encounter with a mysterious entity in the Colorado wilderness, possibly a Sasquatch, sparking a conversation about the countless legends that inhabit the fringes of our known world. It's tales like these that enrich the narrative of hunting, blending the thrill of the outdoors with the allure of the unknown.
